First 10 Customers SOP for Solo SaaS: A Founder-Led Process
Getting the first 10 customers is usually an ops problem disguised as a marketing problem. Ads can wait. What fails first is naming who to talk to, logging a next action, and reviewing the week honestly.
This page is the process. Steal it. The downloadable version is free.
The ten steps
- Ideal buyer in one sentence — job + pain + willingness to pay. If you can’t say it, outreach will feel random.
- 10 named prospects before you announce — names beat vibes. Launching to the void is optional; don’t choose it by accident.
- Same discovery questions every call — write them down. Consistency teaches; improvisation collects anecdotes.
- One pipeline — stage + next action + due date — no next action means bookmark, not lead.
- After close or loss: one note on why — “they ghosted” is not a note. “Budget owner wasn’t on the call” is.
- Support separate from bugs — customer questions age differently than issues.
- Price written down — even if you’ll change it. Undocumented price is superstition.
- Launch week checklist (day −7 → +7) — one buy CTA that works on mobile, support triaged, first onboarding email drafted, pipeline ready before Day 0.
- ~10 founder-led outreach touches/day in week one — quality over spray; same-day triage.
- Friday: 30-minute review — ending MRR/cash reality, top 3 pipeline actions, one Kill decision. Then stop.
